Privacy Policy
Effective 23 October 2026
CideGIG collects only what it needs to match contractors with jobs, pay them, meet its tax duties and keep the service safe. We do not sell your personal information or show ads.
Who we are
CideGIG is an app that connects people who need help with moving, handyman and general labour jobs ("employers") with people who do that work ("contractors") across Ontario. It is operated by CideGIG, 1804-1435 Celebration Drive, Pickering, Ontario L1W 0C4 ("CideGIG", "we", "us"). Our Privacy Officer, Patrick Noor, is accountable for how we handle personal information and can be reached at privacy@cidegig.com.
What we collect
| From | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Everyone | Name, email, phone number, home address, password (stored by Google's sign-in service, never visible to us) | To create your account, contact you and show your details to the other person on a job |
| Everyone | Messages you send in a job chat | So the employer and contractor can find each other on the day |
| Everyone | A device token for notifications | To send job offers, updates and messages to your phone |
| Everyone | Reviews and star ratings | To keep quality high; a contractor's average rating is shown to employers |
| Contractors | Types of jobs you do, your hourly rate for each, weekly availability, online/offline status | To offer you jobs that fit |
| Contractors | Your device location when you go online and when you tap "I have arrived" | To find jobs near you and confirm you reached the job site |
| Contractors | HST number (optional), earnings and hours totals, no-show count | To pay HST when it applies, show your earnings, and handle missed jobs |
| Contractors | Legal name, address, date of birth, social insurance number (SIN), Business Number (if you have one), identity check and bank details | Entered on Stripe's pages, not in CideGIG. Stripe uses them to verify you, send your pay and prepare the yearly report we must file with the CRA. The CideGIG app never collects or stores your SIN or bank details; it receives your Stripe account ID and whether your payout and tax setup is complete |
| Employers | Job details: type, date, hours, job address | To book and price the job and send a contractor |
| Employers | Card brand, last 4 digits and expiry date | To show which card is on file. Card numbers are entered on Stripe's page and never reach us |
| Everyone | Job, payment, payout and cancellation records | To bill, pay, resolve disputes and meet tax and accounting rules |
We do not collect your location in the background, and we do not use your location for anything other than the purposes above.
Tax information for contractors
Contractors on CideGIG are self-employed: CideGIG does not employ them, it connects them with employers through the app. Canada's reporting rules for digital platforms (Part XX of the Income Tax Act) require CideGIG to report what it pays each contractor to the Canada Revenue Agency every year.
- What is needed: your legal name, address, date of birth, and your SIN or, if you have one, your Business Number.
- Who collects it: Stripe, our payment provider, during payout setup. The CideGIG app never asks for or stores your SIN; it stays with Stripe and is used only to prepare the report.
- When it's reported: by January 31 each year, for the year before. You receive a copy of what was reported about you.
- If it's missing: your pay may be paused until your tax details are complete, as the law requires.
- How long it's kept: the reports and the records behind them are kept for 6 years after the end of the year they cover.
Consent
By creating an account you agree to us collecting, using and sharing your information as described in this policy. You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your account. Some records must still be kept for the periods set out below, because the law requires it.
How information is shared
- Between the employer and contractor on a job. Employers see the price ranges of available contractors (not who they are) when booking, and the contractor's first name, star rating and the job's hourly price once a contractor accepts. The contractor sees the job type, time, city and distance with a job offer, and the full job address once the job is theirs. Chat messages are seen only by that job's employer and contractor.
- Service providers that run parts of CideGIG for us, under contracts that limit their use of your information: Google Firebase and Google Cloud (accounts, database, server code, notifications, this website), Google Maps Platform (turning addresses into map locations), and Stripe (card payments, contractor identity checks, payouts and tax reporting). Stripe also handles your information under its own privacy policy.
- When the law requires it, for example tax reporting to the Canada Revenue Agency. Each year, by January 31, we report what we paid each contractor under the digital-platform reporting rules, with the contractor's name, address, date of birth and SIN or Business Number, and give each contractor a copy.
- To protect people or the service, for example to investigate fraud or a safety complaint.
- If CideGIG is sold or merged, your information may pass to the new owner under this policy.
Where your information is stored
Our database and server code run in Google Cloud's Montréal region (Canada). Stripe and Google may process some information in the United States or other countries, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law.
How long we keep it
| Information | Kept |
|---|---|
| Profile details (phone, address, availability, location, card details, notification tokens) | Until you delete your account |
| Job, payment, payout and cancellation records, reviews, job chat messages | 6 years after the end of the year the job took place (tax and accounting rules), then deleted |
| Name and email on those records; for contractors, also address, HST number, earnings totals and the yearly CRA reports | Same 6 years, because the records and tax reports need them |
| Records at Stripe, including contractors' SIN and bank details | Under Stripe's own retention rules |
Your choices and rights
- See and correct: your details are on the My Profile page, where you can edit your name, phone and address, and change your email after confirming it.
- Tax and bank details (contractors): update them in your Stripe payout account, from "View payouts" in the app.
- Delete your account: use "Delete account" on the My Profile page, or email privacy@cidegig.com. Deleting your CideGIG account explains what is removed and what is kept.
- Location and notifications: you can turn these off in your phone's settings. Without location, contractors can't go online or check in at a job.
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask a question, at privacy@cidegig.com. We reply within 30 days.
- Complain: if you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
How we protect it
Access to each person's information is limited by security rules on our database: you can see only your own profile and the jobs you're part of. Payment details stay with Stripe, and your SIN is held by Stripe, not in the CideGIG app, and is used only for tax reporting. Information travels over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
Age
CideGIG is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
We'll post any change to this policy here with a new effective date, and tell you in the app or by email before an important change takes effect.
