Getting started
What is CideGIG?
CideGIG is a marketplace that connects people who need help with moving, handyman and general labour jobs (“employers”) with independent contractors across Ontario. Contractors set their own rates; employers choose a price range and the first available contractor in that range takes the job.
Who can use CideGIG?
Anyone 18 or older. When you sign up you choose an employer account (to book help) or a contractor account (to do jobs).
I forgot my password
On the sign-in screen, type your email address and tap Forgot Password. We email you a link to set a new one. If it doesn’t arrive within a few minutes, check your junk or spam folder.
How do I change my email address?
Go to My Profile and change your email there. We send a link to the new address, and the change takes effect once you open it.
For employers
How do I book a job?
Choose the job type, start time (at least 1 hour from now), the hours you expect it to take (3 or more) and the address. Then pick a price range from the contractors available at that time and send the request. You’re notified when a contractor accepts and when they’re on the way.
Can I book more than one contractor?
Yes. Before you send the request, choose how many contractors you need, from 1 to 5. Each one accepts separately, and you can follow every spot on the job screen.
What will I pay?
The job’s hourly price (shown once a contractor accepts) plus HST, for the time from the confirmed start to the finish, rounded up to the next 15 minutes, with a 3-hour minimum. The booked hours are only an estimate.
Why is there a hold on my card?
About 24 hours before the start (or when a contractor accepts, if that’s later) we place a temporary hold for the booked hours × the hourly price × 1.25, plus tax. After the job, the actual amount is charged from the hold and the rest is released. If the hold is declined, you have 2 hours to update your card, or the job is cancelled with no fee.
What if nobody accepts my job?
You can choose a different price range. If no one accepts by the start time, the job closes and you aren’t charged.
Can I cancel?
Cancelling is free before a contractor accepts, and free up to 30 minutes before the start. If a contractor has accepted and you cancel less than 30 minutes before the start, the fee is 1 hour at the job’s hourly price, plus tax.
What if my contractor doesn’t show up?
If your contractor hasn’t arrived 30 minutes after the start, the job is cancelled and you pay nothing. The no-show counts against the contractor’s rating.
Why do I have to leave a review?
Honest reviews keep quality high for everyone. After each completed job, you’re asked to rate your contractor before you can book your next job.
For contractors
How do I start getting jobs?
Finish the payout setup in the app. It opens Stripe, our payment provider, which verifies your identity and collects your bank details and SIN (or Business Number) for tax reporting. CideGIG never sees your SIN or bank details. Then set your rates and weekly availability and go online.
How do job offers work?
When you’re online and available, you get offers for nearby jobs that match your rates. Each offer shows the job type, time, area and your estimated pay. You can accept or decline any offer with no penalty; the first contractor to accept gets the job.
How do I set my rates?
Set an hourly rate for each job type on your profile. You can change it any time; the change applies to jobs offered after it. Rates can’t be lower than Ontario’s minimum wage. CideGIG’s service fee is added on top and paid by the employer, so nothing is taken from your pay.
What happens on the day of the job?
Tap On my way when you leave, and I have arrived at the job site (the app checks your location). You and the employer confirm the start, and when the work is done the employer marks it finished and you confirm. You can message the employer in the app until the job is completed.
When do I get paid?
You earn your hourly rate × the same billable hours the employer pays for. Your pay is sent to your Stripe account once the employer’s payment clears, and you can move it to your bank whenever Stripe allows.
What about HST and income tax?
If you’re registered for GST/HST, enter your number in the app. HST is added to your pay once we verify the number in the CRA registry. You’re responsible for your own income tax and for remitting HST. Each year by January 31, CideGIG reports what it paid you to the CRA and sends you a copy.
How do ratings work?
Your rating is the average of the stars employers give after each completed job. A no-show counts as an automatic 1-star rating. Accounts with an average below 3 stars, or involved in misconduct, may be removed.
Safety and your account
How do I report someone?
On the job screen, tap Report a problem with… (it appears once a contractor has accepted), choose what happened and add details. Only CideGIG sees reports, and the other person isn’t told who reported them. We review every report and may suspend accounts that put people at risk.
Can I share my phone number or get paid in cash?
No. Use the in-app chat to coordinate, and keep all payments in CideGIG. Exchanging personal contact details or arranging payment outside the app is against our Terms, and you lose the protection of in-app payment and support.
How do I delete my account?
Go to My Profile, tap Delete account and type DELETE. See Deleting your CideGIG account for what is removed and kept, or to ask by email.
